TYPISM BOOK 6
Typism is an international lettering hub established by Dr Dominique Falla in 2013 to help creatives share inspirational work, create a sustainable business and build a friendly type community. Consisting of online conferences, a blog, private membership, workshops and a series of books, Typism represent a global cross-section of the world’s best hand lettering, calligraphy, and typography artists.
I was lucky to have my work featured in Typism Book 6. For the handlettered design, I used white pencil on black Canson, crafting different lettering styles for each word. The quote, by Hunter S. Thompson emotively states, ‘Anything that gets the blood racing is probably worth doing'.’
TYPISM BOOK 9
Researching words about skateboarders who turn and flip, I came across a term where skateboarders jump onto a rail and roll away, called an Acid drop. I morphed Gothic letters into the ambigram, to create a unique design which was featured in Typism Book 9 opposite fellow ambigram artist, Nikita Prokhorov. While attending the Typographics Conference NYC 2024, we took a photo — the world’s first double-page Typism selfie with printed and digital versions of the book.
I also created Acid Drop stickers to apply to some skateboards that I’d hand-painted for my Type Down Under exhibition.
In 2022, I was interviewed as a Featured Member on the Typism blog.
CALLIGRAPHY CRUSH MAGAZINE
The American Calligraphy Crush online magazine saw my work on Instagram and reached out to interview me. They featured my handpainted fibreboard suitcase with the quote, “Let’s get lost together.’ I created the design using acrylic paint in four colours: aqua, teal, cream and black. TYPISM BOOK 10
“What makes you different or weird, that’s your strength”. Meryl Streep
Typism Book 10, the final book of a series, asked lettering artists to submit designs for their last publication. The edition is packed with spectacular lettering, calligraphy and typefaces from artists around the world. I sketched up this Meryl Streep quote using a white Faber-Castell watercolour pencil on black Canson paper. Find the Typism Community at their blog, membership, website and annual summit.
